Womens” Basketball: Ship back in business with win over The Rock.
After dropping two straight games, it”s back to business as usual for the Shippensburg University womens” basketball team. The Lady Raiders recommitted themselves to defense in their 62-44 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division victory over Slippery Rock.Shippensburg”s help defense clogged the lane and prevented The Rock (7-18, 1-9 PSAC West) from driving to the basket; Slippery Rock was forced to go for outside shots and missed its first 15 shots. By the time The Rock scored on a jumper from Nikki Presto (9 points) with 12:11 remaining in the first half, the Lady Raiders were already ahead by 10, 12-2.Ship coach Kristy Trn said, ‘After our game on Wednesday (20-point loss to California), we challenged the kids to play defense with more intensity.’Lady Raider star Lauren Beckley (13 points), hampered by foul trouble, played just 22 minutes and was held to 2 of 9 shooting, but Shippensburg”s defense (21 points off turnovers) and Beckley”s teammates more than made up for her production.
