Safe theft shuts down Geelong car sales business.
THIEVES left a trail of destruction in a Geelong car yard office and effectively stole the key to the business in the process.
The owners of the shared Couman”s and Paul Robertson car sales yard in Fyans St face a damage bill of at least $30,000 and are unlikely to be able to run their businesses for at least a week after thieves stole their key safe early yesterday.
The 80kg safe contained keys to all 60 cars in the lot, along with spare keys, immobilisers and lock nuts for alloy wheels.
Proprietor Paul Couman said the yard was hamstrung until the keys were either returned or replaced.
‘Every car has a computer chip in it, so it”s not as simple as going to the locksmith. We have to go back to the manufacturers and get them all made,’ Mr Couman said.
