304 Project a Pain for Businesses, But a Gain for Bremerton.
The final phase of the Gateway project is in full swing, as those who drive Navy Yard Highway can attest.

The Highway 304 improvement and beautification began more than 10 years ago at the ferry dock and has been working its way out of town ever since.

This phase includes cutting off access from the highway to businesses and providing it from a rebuilt Charleston Beach Road. To get to Westbay Auto Parts, Cliff”s Cycle Center, Miller Sheetmetal and Affordable Ignition Interlock, customers will need to turn on to Charleston Beach Road at its intersection with Highway 304, across from shipyard”s Missouri gate entrance. Four-foot-high black fencing along the highway will deter drivers from trying to take a shortcut.

‘It”s definitely going to impede business,’ Westbay Auto Parts district manager Louis Kimmel said of losing its driveway and parking along the highway.
